The Walking Dead

I’m sure you’ve all at least heard of the AMC series “The Walking Dead.” Or maybe you’re as hooked on it as I am! Well, if you're into the whole "survive the zombie apocalypse" thing and people dying left and right, tune in October 11th! With all brains aside, I see a great opportunity to draw an analogy out of the show: Imagine you are in a group of survivors who are barely making it from day to day, trying to find food, water, shelter, all the basics while also trying to deal with the inevitable threat of the lifeless wandering around in search for fresh human flesh. You and your group have happened upon several camps that look sustainable and safe but eventually fail you and cause your group to leave them. One day, you come across a man who seems to be searching for survivors. He hands you and your group members a radio and says “If you ever realize you’re in need of assistance, ask for help through the radio.” Once the man leaves, you continue your search for a safe camp. As you are traveling, you just can’t help thinking about that man with the radio. One night, during an intense encounter with the walking dead, you find yourself surrounded by them and there seems to be no way of escaping their grasp. You remember the radio in your bag and frantically reach for it. You clutch the radio tightly and call out desperately for help. With one final call before the dead get to you, a beam of light from a helicopter above shines on you and the it drops a ladder. Once you enter the helicopter, the pilot asks, “Do you want to come with me to a new place that’s safe? There’s food, water, shelter, and all the ammunition needed to protect you from the walking dead so you no longer have to live in fear. I only need one thing from you, your trust.” So there’s your analogy, what I want you to do is begin to dissect it, pull it apart, place yourself in the situation of the survivor. Compare these unstable, “safe” camps that you come across to things you falsely put your trust into. Whether it be relationships, appearance, grades, or that cool new gadget that you just gotta have, your ultimate need is Jesus Christ. Also, enjoy deciphering other meanings from this analogy. For example, realize why the man handed you a two-way radio and who he was in comparison.
