Change

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations—as it is today. Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.

Deuteronomy 10:12-21 (NIV)

I came across these verses the other day when I was spending time with the Lord while studying my Bible. Even though I have read the passage before, it stood out to me this time and it is something that I wanted to share. This time of the year we’re going through a lot of change – they may be good, bad, or a little scary. Particularly with graduations approaching, some of you may be feeling a combination of feelings about all of the change in your life!

Regardless, we all face change, uncertainty, and even doubt in our lives. Even though those times may be scary, this passage in Deuteronomy, originally intended for the Israelites, is a great reminder of who God is and how He wants us to live.

Awesome truths to rejoice in, no matter what season of life you find yourself:

  • God is in control of everything – and still he chooses to know and love us, personally.

  • No matter what our current circumstances are we must love the Lord and remain obedient to what He calls us to.

  • God never changes! He is the same during the days as Deuteronomy as He is today – and He is awesome!

  • And lastly, reflect on all of the awesome things the Lord has done – in the world and in your life…when you’re feeling down or doubtful, remind yourself of those things. God wants the best for us, and He will continue to bless you as He has in the past. (Even if it doesn’t look like how you expect it.)

Take the time today to think about what the Lord has done and thank Him for everything He is going to do in your life. He is our praise!
