Don't Miss the Roses

As I am writing this, I am with some of the ladies of our church headed home from Women of Faith. I have known that this was my blog week for a few weeks, and I have been trying to come up with something to write. I am usually pretty good at coming up with something to write, but this week I really struggled. I was really excited to get to Women of a Faith because I was sure I could come up with something. With about an hour left, I was getting really worried because I still had nothing.

Then wham, God hit me like a Mack truck. At the end of the conference all the speakers came back out to share one last thing. They explained that they would be sharing one rose (good thing) and one thorn (bad thing) from their lives over the past few months. I started thinking about my life over the last few months, and I realized something that really made me sad.

I tend to focus on the thorns in my life so much that I can't even see the roses. Roses are so beautiful and when we look at a rose bush we tend to see the roses. Without roses, the bushes are not pretty. When we, when I, focus on the thorns in my life, we are going to see a life that is broken and not very pretty.

If a rose bush only had one bright red rose, the focus of that bush would be that rose. I don't want to be guilty of not seeing the roses in my life. Even with all the thorns, God has blessed me abundantly! I could make a list a mile long of blessings, and now my goal is to focus on those blessings and not my thorns!

What are the roses in your life?
