With all the snow that has been pouring down to make this area look like a winter wonderland, I can’t help but be a little grateful to be snowed in with my little family. Even though I have really enjoyed the extra time with my family over the last month of being stuck in the house with my little newborn, I have come to miss one very important part of my life...fellowship. The Bible talks a lot about relationships and encouraging one another. It is so important for us as Christians and even just humans in general to have relationships with people that will encourage and build us up.
In my twenty-five years of life I have never been so disconnected from the world as I have been the last few weeks with a newborn in the middle of flu season. From the first day I spent in the house I have been counting down the days that I can take Judah out and we can resume our normal lives. One of the biggest parts of our family's life is our time at church and the great relationships we have with our church family. There are times for solitude (like being snowed in with your family) and there are times we interact with those around us. Life was not meant to be lived alone and the only way we can have those relationships is if we fellowship with one another.
I have been blessed in the last few weeks with multiple people in my life who have made sure that I was not completely alone. I can’t imagine going through this life alone and isolated. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Sometimes I find myself feeling isolated by life circumstances and struggles and it is at that time that I am thankful to have friends and family where I can seek biblical counsel and have a place to relax and have some fun. Fellowship with people who lift you up and sharpen you is extremely important. Don’t let your life become isolated. In isolation we become weak and can fall prey to temptation and life’s struggles.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” - Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
